Introduction to Orchestra (1 credit, single mod) *
For students who have had little or no previous instruction in the basics of playing an orchestral string instrument. The fundamentals of music reading, rhythmic execution, performance technique, and solo and ensemble performance skills will be the focus of the course. Participation in the course will enable students to acquire the sills necessary to audition for the Intermediate Orchestra Class.

Concert Orchestra (I credit, single mod)*
For students coming from most middle school orchestra programs in Prince George's County, this group offers refinement of basic performance techniques. The orchestra rehearses music that will assist in developing basic string techniques, good intonation, and tone quality. Techniques include development of vibrato and early position work. Students are encouraged to study privately outside of school.

Symphony Orchestra (1 credit, single mod)*
Predominantly comprised of advanced musicians, members are selected based on their ability to demonstrate characteristic sound, pitch control, advanced technique, rhythmic reading, musical nuance, and style. Music performed includes standard orchestral repertoire that helps develop advanced concepts of balance, blend, rhythmic independence, aesthetic expression, as well as advanced technical skills. All students must be comfortable in upper positions. Most students study privately outside of school.

Music performed demonstrates an advanced understanding of all musical parameters and challenges students to expand their vocabulary of stylistic expressions, polish technical facility, and explore challenging and varied repertoire. Almost all students study privately outside of school.
