Wind Ensemble

Members include advanced musicians selected because of their unusual musical achievement.  Music performed demonstrates an advanced understanding of all musical parameters, and challenges students to expand their vocabulary of stylistic expressions, polish technical facility, and explore challenging and varied repertoire. For the past couple of years, the Wind Ensemble has concentrated on small ensemble playing. Almost all students study privately outside of school.

Symphonic Band

Predominately comprised of advanced musicians, members are selected based on their ability to demonstrate characteristic sound, pitch control, advanced technical facility, rhythmic reading, nuance and style.  Music performed includes standard band repertoire that helps develop advanced concepts of blend, balance, rhythmic independence, aesthetic expressions, as well as advanced technical skills.  Most students study privately outside of school. Listen to them play Yorkshire March and Prelude, Siciliano, and Rondo by Malcolm Arnold arr. John Paynterat the December 2019 concert.

A class devoted completely to making well rounded percussionists.  Students learn all the percussion instruments in an ensemble setting as well as perform the music selected for the concert bands.  They experience different genres and styles of playing from Latin/Afro Cuban, to novelty pieces with buckets, trash cans and brooms!
